Irish you would come to the festival…
Yeah…I know…I’m pretty forkin clever. Anyway, this is a huge weekend. As if we didn’t celebrate being Irish enough, we went ahead and decided to stomp all over the German’s Oktoberfest and the Italian’s Columbus Day weekend to throw an even bigger party than both …
Forget about it!!!
It’s Prince Spaghetti day here in Boston! Over the years I have grown to love Italian culture….and of course the amazing food. Irish and Italians have forged a unique relationship over the generations here in Boston. We certainly poke fun at each other from time to time but we have more often than not worked side by side building this incredible city. It’s very common to find folks from this area that are from Irish and Italian decent as well. Hey…forget about it!! 🙂

There’s many Italian families from Boston who have also made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country as well. Enter SSGT. Anthony Buccini….shot down in action over France during WW2. His brother Al Buccini later moved from the North End and raised a family in Dorchester. He later named one of his sons Anthony who I became friends with.
The North End Historical Society recently started work on a documentary called Boston’s North End: America’s Italian Neighborhood. The documentary is being created from stories of the Italian-American community that has called the North End home for over 100 years.

If you have old photos, home movies or newspaper clips, the filmmakers would love to see them. Most of all, the creators would appreciate your monetary donations toward this project of preserving the legacy of the North End. Contact NorthEndHS@gmail.com or go to NorthEndBoston.org to contribute online.

Like Italian Bakeries?
Let’s face it….we all miss Bombadieri’s….it was Dorchester’s go to Italian bakery for years. Personally I always marveled that the store had flies year round…..even during snow storms. Regardless….they had incredible baked goods. For those who do not know the place…. Fratelli’s in Quincy is …
Fuhget about it….it’s Columbus Day..
For Italians from all over this great country today is always special. They will be celebrating when the Vikings….I mean Columbus discovered America. For me it’s normally a day to relax with a day off of work. But today I’m going to grab my bocce balls and write about the things I like that Italians brought from that boot in the Mediterranean here to the USA.
1# – Food
Italian cooking is hands down the best on the planet and my favorite to cook. What would Dorchester be without CBZ (Chicken Broccoli and Ziti) or Irish joints selling Italian food?
2# – Menino
This man is an endless source of entertainment. Howie Carr would be missing a whole segment of his show without Mumbles. Just don’t look for any of his speeches to be cast in bronze and put in a public park. Thank Woo!!

3# – The North Shore
Yup…everybody forgot to mention Columbus discovered the whole region north of the Charles River on his way back to Spain. Some of the crew decided to settle and went on to invent Santarpios and the IROC-Z. Grazie Chris!!
4# – The Sons of Italy
Italians knew of the Irish so they decided to build these function halls all over the US. The Italian flag looks very Irish after 8 pints and they capitalized. What would a Sons of Italy be without an open bar Irish Wedding on the first floor?
5# Adam Vinatieri
Yeah he’s with the friggin Colts….but Mr Clutch provided New England with 2 rings. And we don’t forget that….Ci manchi Adam !!
