We love you Jane!

We love you Jane!

I just wanted to take a moment and acknowledge the awesome story the Dorchester Reporter did on Jane Richard today. Seeing her standing there with a huge smile on her face kind of made all my problems seem very petty and small. Jane fought like

Country Fest is coming…

Country Fest is coming…

And like any enterprising, handsome, brilliant, and sexy bullsh*t artist I created a Dot Rat shirt for the occasion. Not because I needed the money….

Country Fest is all about freedom, copious amounts of alcohol, fatty food and people with cowboy hats sporting Boston accents. Sure we may have never been to a Nascar race or rode a horse….we may have never rode a family member either (sorry Kentucky). But that doesn’t mean Dot Rats don’t love ‘Merica.

BAM!

Go buy yours HERE!

We will have reporters on the ground and if it’s anything like last year….the cops will be arresting people like crazy…so be prepared…nips and cups people!

The Marylou’s Cruise…

The Marylou’s Cruise…

So I walk into Marylou’s in Quincy for an iced coffee Sunday morning. Now plenty of us are familiar with their business model. The place is essentially a scaled back Hooters of coffee. And for full disclosure there is not a place on the planet

Thank you Mark Wahlberg…

Thank you Mark Wahlberg…

Ya…thanks for making me look like the laziest a**hole in Dorchester. I’m down at your brother’s place smashing OFD burgers, getting fat. You got Nacho eating pieces of turf and cups of hot sauce….meanwhile your 2 year old son is dunking on Kobe’s kids and

Stem Cell Burgers?

Stem Cell Burgers?

I consider myself a progressive guy, and during any stem cell debate you can find me usually siding with scientists. My thought process is simple, if we have the technology to help a young child or an adult overcome some terrible disease….why not use it…who am I to impose any of my religious beliefs on anyone trying to lead a healthy life. There’s a part of me that reasons we are playing god but, we are also evolving as a species.

Anyway, one thing I never considered was that my stance on stem cell research would someday make it into a Wendy’s or a Wahlburgers.

“Ya, I will take big stem burger, hold the genetically modified tomatoes and give me side of fried onion spud hybrids.”

WTF? I understand most of the food on any super market shelves is polluted garbage anyway but this is a little over the top. I guess one of the guys behind it is a Google founder which is just weird….but he’s got the cake to make it happen. Maybe one day he wants you to Google “cheeseburger” and your screen will shoot one down your neck….who knows.

All I really wanted was to maybe help someone walk again or to keep them from dying too young. The problem with that is we are getting overpopulated and someday we might need a meat tree growing in the house to get our burger on. I never seem to get it right and it’s all becoming way too Jetsons for me. I bet Whole Foods and ARod are loving this sh*t though…..

Marty and Gabriel…

Marty and Gabriel…

Those of you that have been reading my stories over the past couple of years know that I am a big fan of the sweet science. Boxing teaches so many life lessons yet it’s value is often underpinned by those who regard it as a

George’s drink of the week…

George’s drink of the week…

So my cousin George loves to experiment with booze. He’s got so many bottles of liquor he could fuel Brazil’s mass transit fleet for a week. So the mayor of Neponset avenue and I are sitting here listening to some old school Kurtis Blow and

Dorchester gets it’s own beer…

Dorchester gets it’s own beer…

That’s right…Dot is so badass it finally got it’s own beer. For a person like me who loves beer so much so that I visited this go url last week to get a Kegerator at home, this news of Dot sounded exciting. The good folks at the Percival Beer Company have set up shop in Dorchester and are looking to breath some life into the neighborhood…literally.

Percival is currently making two beers. A Cape Verdean inspired lager called “Kompadre” and “Dot Ale 1630”. I’m a fan of any company that has a solid vision for prospering in Dorchester, and it feels like PBC wants to do just that. Here’s some language from the company’s “about” page on their website:

“Percival Beer Company (PBC) is an independent craft beer brewer and distributor. After three years of developing quality recipes, we launched our unique brands in January of 2013. In May of that year, we were granted our distribution license which made us 100% independent.

PBC brands are designed for both the beginner and expert craft beer palate alike. Though we focus on brewing and distributing light-simple craft beer that introduces commercial beer drinkers to the craft beer movement. Our flagship brands, Dot Ale 1630 and Kompadre Lager are brewed with quality malts and bittered with domestic hops.

Within the coming months, PBC will seek to establish its main office and distribution warehouse within Dorchester. We are currently awaiting feedback from various locations along Dot Ave. Stay tuned!

Why Dorchester (Dot)? Well, Dot is a town which has a rich history dating back to the early 1600s and has been a prominent fixture in the history of Massachusetts, since the first settlers arrived from England. Currently, it is a neighborhood comprised of diverse families, including Irish, Cape Verdean, Spanish and Vietnamese. Please visit the Dorchester Historical Society’s website for more historical information about Dorchester: www.dorchesterhistoricalsociety.org

In recent decades, Dot was mostly known for dilapidated homes, vacant store fronts and unsafe streets. Today, there is an invigorating spirit of innovation and positivity sweeping the neighborhood. New businesses are springing up, homes are being modernized and the community is now alive.

Dot’s strong tradition of being a community of blue-collar workers and immigrants is clearly showcased in PBC brands. Dot Ale 1630 and Kompadre Lager possess a strong character with a crafty hop profile. Our pride is aromatic and our attitude is refreshing.

In summary, PBC seeks to promote localization and inspire the Dorchester community to reinvent and innovate. Our goal is to help transform Dorchester into a social and economic destination for all to enjoy.”

I am routing for this company….I want them to  be very successful and I’m asking all my fellow Dot Rats to stop by Eagle Liquors on Dot Ave or any other retail location listed on their site and try the new Dot Ale or Kompadre.  Lets support these folks!

Guess who’s buying a 6 of each and tying a buzz on tonight?
