Would you swim in the Charles for 10 bucks?

Would you swim in the Charles for 10 bucks?

How about in 1988? This show ran on channel 23 which was Cablevision (pre Comcast) in Boston….I actually remember watching this with my pops. I think it’s still a challenge to get people to swim in the Charles because of the stigma attached to it…..although

Hate commercials?

We all do….but some Dot Rats out there may remember turning the dial to channel 56 and seeing these. I used to drive by the Morrissey Blvd studio when I was a kid and always thought it was where Bozo lived. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyAHYyLQ_9I] I hope Karen

Boars on patrol…

Boars on patrol…

Apparently 50,000 American boars crossed the Mexican border and are going to be slaughtered because they are getting a free meal on Mexican farms. As you can imagine, I’m totally on the side of the boars. You really don’t get more patriotic than these rascals.

You have to love Mila…

Mila Kunis has one of the prettiest faces in Hollywood in my opinion. She’s smart, knows 2 languages and she can act. But she raised the bar over the weekend when she kept her promise to a SGT Scott Moore and attended the Marine Corp

Boombalotty’s Honorary Dot Rat…

Boombalotty’s Honorary Dot Rat…

I want to officially nominate Wes Welker as an honorary Dot Rat. I mean, the adjectives are endless with this guy. He’s hard-working, He’s fast, He has a great first step and best of all, whenever he gets walloped, which is often, he just stands up walks back to the huddle and he’s ready for the next play. He is 5’9″ 185lbs. playing a position where the average height is between 6’3″ to 6’6″. I’m sure growing up, everybody told him that he’s too small, he’s not fast enough etc… so what did he do? He worked his tail off, to not only make it to the NFL, but become arguably the best wide receiver the past 4 years. Of course, my favorite part of the guy is that you never read about him in the Inside Track, he’s not dating supermodels,he’s not tweeting every little thing in his life. That’s right Ocho-Stinko I’m talking about you. Stinko seems to do everything BUT catch footballs. Here’s a little advice Stinko, put your locker next to Welkers and learn from the best. If you do that you MIGHT be on the roster next year. So in conclusion, Wes, you have a lifetime Dorchester pass, and I’m sure you’ll never have to buy a beer here.

Video games are addictive?

Who was the genius that came up with this study? Of course they are addictive….fun is addictive. We are talking about one facet of America’s great exports…technology and entertainment. Of course there is the occasional Korean that goes overboard, and it may piss of your

Random Thoughts from Boombalotty…

Random Thoughts from Boombalotty…

I Think the Red Sox are in a tough situation, They are actually expected to win the World Series EVERY year now. Growing up, you were told by your family that after the all-star break, you could pretty much count on the Sox caving in before the playoffs. They always seemed to fall faster than Lehman Brothers stock. As you got older, you developed “THE FEVER”, where reason and rationale took a backseat to the truth. You would tell your detractors,  “this is the year”, and you truly believed it. When this “FEVER”  takes over your mind you become a Yahoo.

A Yahoo splits from reality and makes their own truths like “the Sox are gonna do it this year”. The great Boston Globe sportswriter Dan Shaughnessy coined the term “The Curse of the Bambino”, which of course took off like wild-fire. The Yahoo’s didn’t believe in it, the curse was for the media and pink hats only. We kept telling ourselves “there’s always next year”. The forces that be answered our prayers with the 2004 and 2007 championships. This was phenomenal, but guess what? We expect them to win every year now. So when they collapsed this September many people couldn’t believe it, especially the young fans. In my opinion balance was restored to the universe. Most men don’t watch soap opera’s, but we do have our own.

The sports pages of the Globe and Herald.

Who’s going to manage the Sox now? Who’s going to be our closer? Who’s going to play right field? What are we going to do with Dice-K? All of that drama should take us right into April. Well all I can say about  the Red Sox drama is, thank God for Tom Brady and the Bruins.

Boombalotty is half man half amazing. He’s the official minister of propaganda for dotrat.com. He has a pulse on the sports world, an ear for gossip and the Phantom Gourmet can’t even come close to his food reviews. He is our very own Vince! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tgS1n7DQbY]
