Nigel on Vinyl…
Picture you’re going on a trip and you have only one small suitcase (listen up ladies). This essentially means you can only take what you need.
Apply that thinking to a standard 128K MP3. Well, in order to achieve a 4 minute song within the size of 4 to 5 megabytes on your hard drive or IPod you have to leave something out. In this case….it’s sound.
Vinyl leaves nothing out…which is why you have musicians and music lovers alike who chase records.
I never paid much attention to it until I started noticing massive sound differences between songs when playing MP3’s in my vehicle. I used to chaulk it up to the sound engineering of the album. Nope….just sh*tty sound….because a lot was left out to preserve space.
I have listened to the FLAC format (Free Lossless Audio Codec) too and noticed a better sounding music. But…that 4 MB song is more like 30 MB on FLAC.
Random article I know….I guess I just wanted to share what I have learned with my fellow music lovers.
