American Made Movie…

We need to build things, we are not a nation of cubicle jockeys. If you’re passionate about trying to put fellow Americans to work, then this movie is a must see.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08DNFf12Ax8

Muscle Shoals…

Muscle Shoals…

So I’m sitting my ass in front of the tube last night scrolling through Netflix looking for something to watch. BTW – if you haven’t got yourself a Chromecast device yet – take it from your old pal Dot Rat….it’s well worth the 35 dollar

Do you know Joe Donovan?

Do you know Joe Donovan?

A 17 year old kid throws a single punch in an altercation in which an MIT student gets stabbed to death. Does that 17 year old kid deserve a life sentence even though he was not the one who stabbed the student? Is he still sitting in jail because of a series of governors that have been unwilling to take what they consider a political risk assessed after the Willie Horton case?

I think 20 years in prison is more than enough time for Joe Donovan to serve for throwing a punch. The family of the victim agrees. We have career criminals walking the street because of Annie Dookhan falsifying evidence in potentially 34000 cases….and yet this kid is left to rot.

It’s time for Deval Patrick to grow a set and pardon Joe Donovan!

Beats, Rhymes and Life…

Beats, Rhymes and Life…

A Tribe Called Quest…. Play any one of their songs and it can put me back to a simpler time in my life. Whether it was my first house party, or attending school at the Woodrow Wilson, even my first Dot Day (with Budweiser). Their music

Southie Boy….

Southie Boy….

This new documentary directed by Padriac Farma looks good! I have been waiting for something like this to come along. Here’s a description from his website : In September of 1974 the doors of South Boston High School opened to the roaring crowd of protestors

Street Hockey time…

Street Hockey time…

I gotta admit this flick 363: The Road to the Southie 3-on-3 is pretty bad ass. What a production….Danny Picard and his boys did an incredible job making it. I felt like I was watching an ESPN special or something. It brought back good memories of being a young kid playing after school with my fellow Dot Rats. There’s obviously some scripted exchanges in the doc but I can appreciate guys being fresh pr*cks with each other…..hey I grew up in that….and I got a few good laughs out of it. The equipment hustler at the 12 minute mark is brilliant and the referee exchange is even better.

Figure Father…

Figure Father…

If you can find 10 minutes in your day…watch this short doc called Figure Father. I know there’s many young Dot Rats that can relate to everything Pedro Sodo speaks of in this incredibly well done short film. [vimeo http://vimeo.com/37784682]

Pearl Jam “Twenty”…

Pearl Jam “Twenty”…

So I got to watch the American Masters documentary Pearl Jam Twenty over the weekend. The early 90’s was an incredible time in music. The Seattle scene landed in Boston with bands like SoundGarden, Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam and it was a

Dorchester…the way it was…and the way it could be.

Dorchester…the way it was…and the way it could be.

We read a lot about our neighborhood on a day-to-day basis with most of it being negative. I’m not going to blame anyone for what happens here….I’m a true believer that money (or lack there of) is the root of crime in any neighborhood. With poverty comes problems…the
